We just launched for Virginia

Posted by Scott at 1:07 am

So get this…

We’re now at every single school in Virginia.

Uhh…yeah.  Amazing!

We developed some things exclusively for the College Republican Federation of Virginia, and now every CR chapter at every single school in VA has Groupvine.

It’s celebration time…

Back from VA

Posted by Scott at 2:51 pm

So Virginia rocked.  I went up to the University of Mary Washington to hang with Andrew Lamar, Virginia College Republican State Chairman and all the other CR chairmen of the state.  Speaker of the House Bill Howell gave a good speech and College Republican National Chairman Paul Gourley made an appearance.

Afterwards I got to know some of the CRs that go to UMW and who go to school around the state and enjoyed some burnt hamburgers (Andrew’s from NC and claims he can grill).

So the cool things are that not only did I have an awesome weekend, but Groupvine will be rolling out to the entire state of Virginia today and tomorrow.

I love this entrepreneur thing.

Groupvine publicity and the first Groupvine-related trip

Posted by Scott at 4:43 pm

Groupvine is being used by the College Republican Federation of Virginia to unify chapters from all over the state. I’ll be going up there this weekend to present how Groupvine can be used by all the chapters to communicate not only with each other, but with CR HQ.

CRFV is definitely an example of how powerful Groupvine can be for chapter-based organizations.

Included is an image from their newsletter that featured Groupvine.

Problem fixed

Posted by Scott at 7:43 pm

There should be no more problems with logging into Groupvine.  Lead programmer Charles Beck, slaving night and day with only a pittance of sleep, located the problem and annihilated it with relative ease.  The only problem was finding it.

The Groupvine team wants to apologize: for the delay, for your data not being accessible, and for generally confusing error messages.

We’ve found the culprit

Posted by Scott at 12:05 am

Our server changed PHP versions (PHP is a coding language and there are different versions of it that have different coding techniques) and so that’s why everything’s blowing up.

To be honest, this really sucks.  It sucks because we’ll either have to update lots of stuff or we’ll have to change servers.  And both aren’t easy tasks.

This may have been prevented by some foresight, but the bottom line is that we didn’t get any heads up on the PHP upgrade.

Frustration!  Hard work!  But it’s all part of the game.

Still working…

Posted by Scott at 8:01 pm

OK, so we’ve narrowed the problem down to something that’s changed with the server (for you non-techie people, don’t worry if this doesn’t make sense).  So the good news is — it wasn’t us! — but the bad news is that we’re still working on fixing the problem.

In the meantime, drop me an email and let me know if I can get any information for you that’s stored within Groupvine (scotthurff at thegroupvine dot com).

Our bad

Posted by Scott at 3:46 pm

We managed to mess something up with Groupvine — don’t worry, your data is fine!  So we’re working on a fix right now and we’ll post on here when you can log back in.

Sorry for the inconvenience (although it is Friday, so it could be worse!).

We’ve got the new hotness

Posted by Scott at 12:06 pm

Spring Break is rolling around here at Wake, but I wanted to let everyone know about some new/old new features we just released for Groupvine:

  • Message commenting: instead of having to send a new message to someone in reply, simply click “Add a comment” and leave one.  If you want to stay on top of a message thread, simply check the “Notify me by email when someone comments” box.
  • Targeted messages: now you can send personalized, private messages to individuals or send to small groups.
  • Email notifies: on messages you send to people so they know they’ve got something to read.
  • Open organizations: if you want, people can now simply join your organization without getting your permission.

That’s all for now.  I’ll be running to Florida next week, but I’ll dial up every now and then.

As an aside: since introducing new messaging features, we’ve seen our highest traffic yet.  Thanks, everyone!
